Traditional
Flamenco Concerts
Marta's voice and Richard's guitar appeal to
audiences across different cultures. They have
taken
their
flamenco music around the world, usually
performing as a duo and sometimes as accompanists
for dancers. Among their travels
as singer and
guitarist
they
have traced the music's roots from India through the Middle East
to Europe, presenting their shows to
audiences
in each of these regions. They appeared as flamenco
artists in
a series of concerts
presented by Broadway Concerts Direct of New York.
Marta is originally from Colombia, where she sang professionally with
groups in Cali, while Richard had already being playing solo
flamenco guitar since leaving his native Scotland.
The two
met and married in Calgary, Alberta in 1989, forming their flamenco duo
soon
afterwards. Marta and Richard live in Ronda, Spain. They
have performed in a number of music festivals, including the Northern
Flamenco Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. They won first prize
in the solo/duo category in Music
Fest in Upper Clements Park, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Television appearances include Slovene TV's "Harmonije Evropa"
where Marta and Richard provided flamenco music for the programme on
Spain, recorded and filmed at the Don Felipe restaurant in Ljubljana.
Also in Slovenia they
recorded the overture for the stage show Carmela & Paulino
based on Ay Carmela! at
the Ljubljana City Theatre (MGL). For the short film No Man's Land
directed by Hernan
Moreno, first shown in 2009 at the SUYS film festival in Calgary,
Marta and Richard recorded the flamenco
tracks.
